Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP is pleased to announce that Jeff Featherstun has received the Indiana Lawyer’s 2023 Distinguished Barrister award, and Chris Kozak has received the 2023 Up and Coming Lawyer award. The Indiana Lawyer makes its Leadership in Law selections based on demonstrated leadership, accomplishment in legal work, and volunteer and community work. This year’s honorees were announced in The Indiana Lawyer on April 17^th and will be recognized at a breakfast reception on May 18^th.

Jeff Featherstun has focused on insurance coverage and environmental law for nearly 30 years. He has worked on a series of cases that helped make Indiana probably the most favorable jurisdiction for policyholders facing environmental liabilities. This work played an important role in enabling hundreds of millions of dollars in environmental cleanups across the country. Jeff’s environmental law practice has included litigating a number of issues of first impression, clarifying federal and state environmental laws. Through these matters, Jeff has had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s largest companies, as well as many small businesses, municipalities and individuals. Jeff is a member of the Environmental Law Section of both the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association, a member of the American Bar Association, and a co-chair of the ABA Section of Litigation Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee Energy/Environment Subcommittee.

Chris Kozak is a top-flight insurance-coverage and appellate litigator. He has written briefs in over 20 appellate matters and has experience with CGL, D&O, EPL, Professional Liability, Homeowner’s, Commercial Property, Business Income, Excess/Umbrella, and life insurance coverage. He is known for his ability to penetrate complex issues, identify and wrangle the relevant details, and present them to courts with clarity and wit. He uses those skills to his clients’ advantage when disputes go to court, where providing a clear argument in a complicated case can be the difference between winning and losing. Chris’s clients range from individual policyholders to multi-national companies, and he has assisted clients in disputes ranging from $1,200 to those involving hundreds of millions of dollars. When he has time, Chris enjoys doing pro bono work, and is particularly interested in civil rights issues and in assisting survivors of human trafficking.
