PSRB Lawyers Take Alabama Death Row Inmate’s Case to the Supreme Court

By

In 2002 Peter M. Racher attended a presentation about the American Bar Association’s Death Penalty Representation Project. Beginning shortly after that, attorneys at Plews Shadley Racher and Braun have represented Domineque Ray, an inmate on Alabama’s death row since he was sentenced in 1999. Today, represented by Peter, Theresa M. Willard, and Josh S. Tatum, Mr. Ray is asking the United States Supreme Court to reconsider taking his case. Mr. Ray’s attorneys filed a petition for rehearing on his behalf on November 18, 2016.

Mr. Ray challenges his conviction and sentence based on allegations that the prosecution unconstitutionally withheld helpful evidence and because he received ineffective assistance of counsel arising from his state-appointed lawyers’ failure to investigate and present evidence mitigating the severity of the crimes for which he was convicted. Download a more detailed description of Mr. Ray’s case here.
