| Peter M. Racher, Partner |
Back to Attorney List |
| |
Peter Racher has, for more than two decades, represented plaintiffs and defendants in highly complex litigation matters. The caliber of this work is reflected by published decisions that include Lindsey v. DeGroot, 898 N.E.2d 1251 (Ind. Ct. App. 2009) and Shell Oil Co. v. Meyer, 705 N.E.2d 962 (Ind. 1998). Both decisions established important principles of law that favored our clients. Peter was named Environmental Litigator of the Year by the Hoosier Environmental Council for the Shell Oil win. Recent trial court successes include The Sierra Club v. Gates, 499 F.Supp.2d 1101 (S.D. Ind. 2008). After a lengthy bench trial, the U.S. District Court ruled against efforts by environmental groups that sought to prevent the transportation of nerve gas constituents to an out-of-state facility for their destruction and disposal. Peter earned his B.A. (Biology) from Oberlin College in 1978. From 1978 to 1983, Peter was a Journalist for The Des Moines Register, the Tallahassee Democrat and the Charlotte Observer. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, in 1986. Peter clerked for the Honorable James M. Dixon, Monroe County Circuit Court from 1984-1986. He was an associate at Bose, McKinney & Evans, Indianapolis from 1986 to 1989. Peter joined PSRB in 1989, was made a partner in 1992 and became a named partner in 1994. Peter writes and lectures extensively, having participated in numerous trade association, client and continuing education seminars. He has been listed as an Indiana Super Lawyer every year since 2004. He received an AV peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell. Peter is a Fellow of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association. Peter represents, on a pro-bono basis, an inmate on Alabama’s death row in his post-conviction appeals. He is co-counsel with Donna Marron in this representation, which commenced in 2002.
