Building on the firm’s insurance and health care practices, George Plews, Todd Relue, and Colin Connor recently prevailed on a Social Security Disability appeal for a client.  The client was injured while working in 2006.  The client’s long term disability insurer approved his disability claim but only through 2009, after which it required that the client prove that he suffered from one of a specific list of conditions.  The client appealed the denial of any benefits after 2009, but was unsuccessful.  George, Todd, and Colin filed suit against the long term disability insurer.  George and Colin were able to recover in excess of $90,000 for the client at mediation.

Colin also represented the client at a Social Security disability hearing.  The Social Security Administration had previously ruled on multiple occasions that the client’s injury was not severe enough to qualify him as disabled.  Colin successfully proved that the client is in fact disabled through direct testimony from the client, cross examination of a vocational expert, and the presentation of medical evidence from the client’s treating physician.  The client, who has been unable to work since 2006, will now be able to receive monthly Social Security disability payments in addition to the settlement he received from his long term disability insurer.  Without these payments, the client was barely able to scrape by.  If you have any questions about long term disability insurance or Social Security Disability benefits, please do not hesitate to contact George Plews, Todd Relue, or Colin Connor.
