May 23, 2013   PSRB Attorney Gives Back to Community, Grows as Leader
By Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP

PSRB attorney Colin Connor (far right) has graduated from the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Bar Leader Series, Class X.   The Series develops lawyers for future opportunities in leadership roles in the business and legal communities.  During the Series, Colin attended monthly meetings consisting of presentations from local leaders in various fields, such as law, politics, medicine, public safety and non-profits.

The hallmark of the Bar Leader Series is the creation of a community service project with four other Bar Leader Series members.  Colin, Laura Gaskill, Matthew Tarkington, Kevin Morrissey, and Kameelah Shaheed-Diallo focused on serving families of individuals with special needs.

The group first gathered and donated more than 30 suits, shirts, and ties for the Damar Services Prom when they learned that male students needed clothes for the annual event.   Damar Services, Inc. offers a variety of professional residential and community-based treatment services.

Colin and his team members also gathered donations from area retailers to help 15 families of special needs students at IPS’ George Washington Community School.  More than $1,100 worth of items were collected and presented to the families at an event in early May.  The group paired the donations with an information booklet they created, which outlined resources for everything from legal services to therapy options for children with special needs.  Additional booklets were donated to Washington’s Special Education Department to be shared with other families in need.

PSRB is proud of Colin for his involvement in the Bar Leader Series and his commitment to service and our community.
